Solotop and Restaone Merge
In November 2023, Wermundsen Group made a significant strategic move by acquiring Restaone Oy. This acquisition combined two industry leaders, Solotop Oy and Restaone Oy, creating new synergies for operators in the grocery, restaurant and food industries. The merger expanded our service and product offerings, enabling us to deliver comprehensive solutions tailored to a broader range of customer needs.
Solotop: a brief history
Solotop Oy has a long history of Finnish expertise in scales and weighing systems, supplying equipment to grocery and food industries. The company's roots go back to the early 1960s when a company called Vaaka Nyholm was established to service mechanical scales. In 1975, the company began manufacturing its own Crystal-branded scales. Vaaka Nyholm continued to produce scales until 1984 when it was acquired by Instrumentarium. Under Instrumentarium, scale production accelerated and in the 1990s, the company developed new industrial and commercial scale models, along with baby and personal scales. In 1996, Instrumentarium sold its scale division to Erkki Tammisto, and the new company was named Solotop Oy.
In 2010, the Finnish family-owned company Wermundsen Oy acquired 100% of Solotop's shares. In 2016, the new NEXT scale was launched, designed to serve grocery retailers and their customers efficiently and flexibly. The result was an elegant and practical scale for self-service and service counters.
In 2017, Solotop relocated to the Wermundsen Group's own facilities in Helsinki’s Malmi district. During the renovations, Solotop's development needs were considered and a new showroom showcasing an extensive product range was opened.
